Can you spot the potential for abuse?

As keenly observed by Sergio Tenenbaum, at least some grandmothers lives will be spared this winter.
P.S. It is hoped that if a student comes down with diarrhea they already know not to go to class. However, it would make for a great (albeit rather gross) story for "The Most Awkward Moment with a Student, Ever" collection.

Surely official proof must also be provided post-declaration?

From ROSI:
"By clicking the Submit button below, I hereby declare that it has been necessary for me to be absent from the University because I have been suffering from flu-like symptoms or suspected H1N1 influenza. Due to my illness, I have been unable to attend the University for the period identified above.
By making this declaration I am affirming these statements to be true and that I understand that my declaration is submitted for the purpose of receiving academic accommodation. I also understand and acknowledge that it is my responsibility to complete the requirements of the course and to confirm any necessary academic accommodation arrangements upon my return as directed by my instructor and the policies of my Campus or Faculty.
I understand and acknowledge that making a false declaration would constitute academic misconduct and could be subject to sanctions under the Code of Behaviour on Academic Matters."
It pretty much means comes down to saying if you think you have swine flu, we urge you not to come in regardless of your classes.
Which is a pretty good message because I hated it when my piano students would come to their lessons with a cold because inevitably I'd get sick. But you just KNOW that this is going to be abused and I am going to keep an eye open on how many students disappear from classes around exam time with the swine...
The irony of course being I bet I get sick
