Several things dawned on me a few days ago. One, the Doctor needs a new arch-nemesis. Two, a PhD is a Doctor of Philosophy (I already knew this, but it plays a role in the dawning of the idea). And three, the Doctor refers to himself as both the Lord of Time and the Doctor. From these three dawnings I was struck with the following thought:

What if the Doctor had to face off against a real Doctor - aka a Doctor of Philosophy?
Hence, the Logician was born.

I've started to sketch out what I think the Logician might look like and eventually I may share that sketch. For the time being however, here is the original sketch for today's* comic:
