Triangles?
Earlier today, alongside my regular piano teaching duties I was also tutoring grade four mathematics. During which, the following exchange occurred (I was teaching 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication):
Me: Alright, now I'd like you to try this exercise. Remember the zero when you get to multiplying the tens.
Student: Can I draw a triangle first?
Me: Why?
Student: I like drawing triangles.
At which point I felt a strong obligation to begin a Socratic dialogue following from the Meno, but, I decided against it and instead returned to teaching mathematical principles.
P.S. Battlestar Galactica returns soon.
