The Greatest Love Story Never Told....till now!

Today is a certain someone's birthday. All you need to know about her is that she can be found wandering around UC Berkeley wearing an "I Love Leibniz!" t-shirt.

This, is her birthday present;

There is something about Philosophy that lends itself to subtle homo-eroticism....

I still firmly hold the belief that Spinoza wrote a letter to Leibniz concerning the role that love plays in his Ethics, which Leibniz then mistook to mean that Spinoza was trying to say that he loved him (not love like I love chocolate, but love love). Leibniz quickly wrote back to Spinoza expressing his love for the rascallion in sonnet form on the back of his rough work for his calculus. This letter was intercepted by Newton and therefore it never reached Spinoza. Leibniz waited months and months and still never heard back from the love of his life. He took this to mean that Spinoza only liked him, and didn't like like him. Angered at being led on he threw a tantrum and then began to write the Monadology. The rest as they say, is history.

I think I have a Hollywood blockbuster on my hands.

    Oh, but that's not the problem, it's that you thought Leibniz was me.

    To borrow a phrase from an early 90s sitcom: "How rude!"

    I'm not trying to avoid Spinoza's conclusions, I'm trying to save them!
